The winner of this year's Branford Boase Award was announced on Thursday 11 July. Dave Shelton's A Boy and a Bear in a Boat (edited by David Fickling)was pronounced the most outstanding debut novel for children.

For the first time since 2004, a second book, Lydia Syson's A World Between Us (edited by Sarah Odedina), was Highly Commended.
