The theme for this year's public library reading challenge is Creepy House. It runs from 13 July to 15 September and aims to encourage children to continue to read over the summer holidays.
On enrolment each child will receive a poster and for every book read will win scratch 'n' sniff stickers (and some of them are very smelly!) to put on it. When they finish their sixth book, they will be awarded a medal and a certificate.
There are loads of associated activities and competitions on the Creepy House website, and messages from the new children's laureate Malorie Blackman, footballer turned author Frank Lampard, and many more.
Also, Blue Peter will feature the challenge this Thursday 11 July on the programme, and presenters Helen and Barney will be welcoming illustrator Chris Riddell to the studio.
This is a fun and useful tool to maintain reading momentum among your pupils over the holidays and can be launched in school now with the resources provided on this website and on the Reading Agency website.
